2019 International Youth Day Debate
Day 2 – Friday, August 9, 2019
9am – 3pm

“To achieve sustainable economic growth in Ghana, 70% of programs offered at tertiary institutions should be STEM related”

The 2019 International Youth Day Debate will be the third in the series hosted by Young Diplomats of

Ghana (YDG). The debate presents a platform for YDG Delegates together with participants and young people drawn from across the country to share ideas and put forward their perspective in analyzing the given subject which is of a social and a developmental cause.

Through this, participants learn to agree to disagree, build intellectual confidence, and also learn how to compromise with others, as we work towards ideas and propositions to develop our dear country Ghana in commemorating the worldwide International Youth Day.

With education as the focus subject for the 2019 Ghana Youth Meeting, this year’s debate will attempt

a discussion and knowledge sharing on the extent to which Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematic (STEM) subjects should be prioritized as a nation.

This debate will further consider the potential benefits of STEM to the socio economic development of of the country as well as how to balance STEM courses with that of Vocational, Business and the Arts to achieve a robust educational system that can solidify and strengthen the human capital base of the Ghanaian youth to spur economic and developmental growth.
